Anxiety Disorders
Experiencing anxiety is a normal part of life. Everyone feels temporary fear or apprehension about the future, such as the anxiety we feel prior to taking a test or making an important life decision. This anxiety is a useful tool, as it helps us assess if we are ready for what lies ahead. The part of the brain that aids us in doing the latter is called the amygdala. The amygdala is responsible for assessing threats in our environment and initiating the release of adrenaline and the body’s fight or flight response. Again, this helps us because it can motivate us to study more for a test or look at all of the consequences of an important life decision.
Anxiety disorders, however, occur when the body’s fight or flight response remains switched on or switches on too easily to perceived fears. An individual may experience any combination of the following symptoms:
— Difficulty controlling worry or stopping worry when it starts
— The urge to avoid things or situations that cause anxiety
— Racing or intrusive thoughts
— Ruminating
— Heart palpitations, hyperventilating, hot flashes or chills, nausea, sweating, trembling or shaking, numbness and/or tingling, dizziness, and feeling out of control
— Trouble sleeping
— Trouble concentrating
— Having a sense of impending danger
— An intense need for order
Lotus therapy Group will assess your symptoms and determine if you may be struggling with any of the following anxiety disorders:
— Generalized Anxiety Disorder
— Social Anxiety
— Specific Phobias

Anxiety disorders can leave an individual feeling stuck, broken, and make it difficult to engage in life in the manner desired. We look forward to helping you gain a sense of control and begin to enjoy life again!
