Recognizing Perfectionism and Understanding its Impact
Often people use a variation of the word “perfect” from a place of good intention, however, the mere act of wishing or striving for perfection is setting the stage for something that is unattainable and ultimately harmful.
This presentation offers insight into how too high of expectations for self and others can destructively impact several facets of life on a daily basis, which can also exacerbate mental health disorders.
Realistically, there are natural advantages to perfectionism (otherwise one may not strive to be perfect) such as validation and perceived successes, yet the same advantages can also be obtained in a helpful, more sustainable way instead of through the act of perfection.
Not only will the audience receive credible knowledge about the different types of perfectionism, how it manifests, and ways to increase awareness, they will also get the opportunity for self-reflection and learn helpful strategies on letting go. The key takeaway will be how to build mastery, not perfection.
